How to get 75 Mounts in WoW
In the Wrath of the Lich King Expansion, Blizzard has introduced a series of achievements that players can obtain by completing certain tasks. One of these achievements is to obtain a grand total of 75 mounts in the game (now that is an awful lot of mounts!). So here is a quick guide on how to get those all important 75 WoW mounts.
The Original Alliance Factions
Each Alliance faction in WoW Vanilla provides a selection of normal and epic land mounts. In order to obtain these mounts you must be exalted with that particular faction unless it is your home faction. This means you will need to work on gaining reputation to exalted status with each alliance faction barring your own. One of the great ways to do this is to enter the Argent Tournament dailies in Icecrown which will help you gain plenty of reputation with each of these factions.
Mounts obtainable include:
Gnomeregan Exiles
- Normal – Blue Mechanostrider, Unpainted Mechanostrider, Green Mechanostrider, Red Mechanostrider.
- Epic – Swift Green Mechanostrider, Swift Yellow Mechanostrider, Swift White Mechanostrider.
Ironforge
- Normal – Brown Ram, Gray Ram, Brown Ram.
- Epic – Swift Brown Ram, Swift Gray Ram, Swift White Ram.
Stormwind
- Normal – Pinto Bridle, Chestnut Mare Bridle, Brown Horse Bridle.
- Epic – Swift Brown Stead, Swift Palomino, Swift White Stead.
The Exodar
- Normal – Purple Elekk, Brown Elekk, Gray Elekk.
- Epic – Great Purple Elekk, Great Green Elekk, Great Blue Elekk.
Darnassus
- Normal – Reins of the Striped Nightsaber, Reins of the Striped Frostsaber, Reins of the Striped Dawnsaber, Reins of the Spotted Frostsaber.
- Epic - Reins of the Swift Stormsaber, Reins of the Swift Mistsaber, Reins of the Swift Frostsaber.
That is a total of 32 mounts so far just from each of the main alliance factions. If you gained reputation for these factions by completing the argent tournament dailies every day you should also have a good supply of Champion’s Seals to help you with your next mount shopping spree. A total of fifteen mounts are available from the Argent Tournament grounds at the total cost of 1125 Champion’s Seals and 2000g at Exalted. To get extra Champion’s Seals you can complete the TOC5 heroic instance every day and remember to choose the “Champion’s Purse” quest reward, from the Champions dailies in the Argent Tournament grounds, which can often yield extra Champion’s Seals.
Argent Tournament Mounts:
- Stormwind – Stormwind Steed, Swift Gray Steed.
- The Exodar – Exodar Elekk, Great Red Elekk.
- Ironforge – Ironforge Ram, Swift Violet Ram.
- Gnomeregan Exiles – Gnomeregan Mechanostrider, Turbostrider.
- Darnassus – Darnassian Nightsaber, Swift Moonsaber.
- Argent Crusader (Exalted Champion of the Alliance) - Argent Charger, Argent Warhorse.
- Silver Covenant – Quel’dorei Steed, Silver Covenant Hippogryph.
- Any Alliance Faction – Argent Hippogyph
Once you have obtained all of these mounts you will then have a grand total of 47 mounts in the game. This is where obtaining mounts gets a little trickier as they can be much harder to obtain. The next group of mounts are only obtainable through completing original battlegrounds (PVP). PVP mounts can be purchased by exchanging 30 Arathi Basin, 30 Warsong Gulch and 30 Alterac Valley tokens per mount. This means getting down to some serious vanilla PVP in order to obtain these mounts. You may already have a few tokens from doing the odd BG here and there whilst levelling which will help you out when it comes to purchasing these mounts. Unfortunately you cannot obtain these mounts with any other BG tokens.
Original PVP Mounts:
- Black Battlestrider, Black War Ram, Black War Steed Bridle, Reins of the Black War Elekk, Reins of the Black War Tiger.
In addition to these you can also obtain an additional mount the “Reins of the Black War Mammoth” by exchanging 300 Stone Keeper’s Shards. These Stone Keeper’s Shards are a random drop chance from level 80 heroic instance bosses. This means you can obtain an extra six mounts bringing our new total up to 53 mounts in game. As soon as you hit 50 mounts, you will gain the earlier achievement “Leading the Cavalry” which rewards with another mount called the “Reins of the Albino Drake”. By this point you should therefore have a grand total of 54 mounts leaving 21 more mounts to go.
Dalaran is also home to an exotic mounts vendor called Mei Francis. Here you can buy a selection of ground and flying mounts which become cheaper as you gain reputation with the Kirin Tor (Dalaran).
Dalaran Mount Vendor (With No Rep):
- Special Mounts – Reins of the Wooly Mammoth (200 Heroism Emblems), Reins of the Traveller’s Tundra Mammoth (20,000g), Reins of the Armored Brown Bear (750g), Armored Snowy Gryphon (2000g).
- Normal Flying – Snowy Gryphon, Golden Gryphon, Ebon Gryphon.
- Epic Flying – Swift Blue Gryphon, Swift Green Gryphon, Swift Purple Gryphon, Swift Red Gryphon.
This means you can add a further 11 mounts to your arsenal so that you now have 65 mounts leaving only 10 mounts to get.
Getting the Last Ten Mounts
This is where life gets very difficult. For your last ten mounts you will need to try to obtain special achievements where you will receive a mount as a reward. Some holiday festivals in WoW also provide mounts as random drop chances such as the Swift Brewfest Ram or the Swift Brewfest Kodo from killing Coren Direbrew during the Brewfest Holiday. An easier one to obtain is the “Reins of the Bronze Drake” obtainable by completing the Culling of Stratholme heroic instance in a certain amount of time. If you complete the instance quickly enough you will be able to access an additional boss just prior to the last boss in the instance which drops one of these mounts. You can also obtain additional mounts from gaining exalted with many other factions besides the original alliance ones. It’s now up to you to get those last few mounts in whatever way is easiest or more convenient for you.
