How to Get Epic Wrath Gems

If you have looked on the auction houses recently you will know that epic quality Northrend gems certainly do not come cheaply. If you have lots of gold to spare then epic gems may not be a problem for you as there are always plenty available in the auction house for a fair few hundred gold. However, most people (especially raiders) struggle to keep enough gold on their character to supply them epic gems when they get new gear. Here are a few helpful tips and ideas to ensure your supply of epic gems never runs low.

Mining Titanium Ore

If you have a character who can mine Northrend veins it may be a good idea to set aside a little time each week to go mining in places like Icecrown. These areas can often produce titanium ore veins which are not only great for prospecting gems but also sell very well on the auction house too. It’s important to remember not to smelt your titanium ore, its worth much more if it remains as an ore and not a bar.

If you do not have a mining character you will have to buy the titanium ore from the auction house. This can sometimes prove to be more costly than the epic gems so it depends on the current price and how lucky you are with prospecting.

Once you have a good stock of titanium ore you can begin prospecting the ore for gems with a jewel crafting character. If you do not have a jewel crafter of your own you can ask a guild member to prospect it for you or ask in the trade channel for help. If you are asking in the trade channel you will need to provide a small tip or fee for the services of the jewel crafter. In this situation, make sure you form a party with the jewel crafter first so that you can ensure they are being honest about what gems they prospected from the ore. Titanium ore can prospect into common gems, rare gems and epic gems as well as titanium powder which sells handsomely on the auction house or can be traded in by a jewel crafter for tokens.

Do not forget to prospect any saronite ore that you find as well. Saronite ore has a much lower chance of yielding epic gems but you will undoubtedly find much more of this ore while you are mining and it is much cheaper.

Make an Icy Prism a Day

Jewel crafters can make an item known as an Icy Prism. This Prism is made using a selection of commonly found gems. This is particularly useful if you have just prospected a lot of titanium or saronite ore which will often provide excess common gems that are otherwise useless. Save up your common gems and obtain a frozen orb to make an Icy Prism. Frozen orbs are now very cheap following the release of runed orbs and crusader orbs and can easily be purchased form the auction house or obtained through farming heroic instances. Icy Prisms can be made once every 20 hours by a jewel crafter and can often yield rare gems as well as sometimes providing an epic gem or Dragon’s Eye. This is a great way to use up your common gems and frozen orbs in order to get some extra epic gems now and then.

If you do not have a jewel crafter, ask your fellow guild mates or in the trade channel for help. Again, you will need to provide a small fee or tip for the services of the jewel crafter and make sure you are grouped with them to avoid being swindled.

Alchemy Transmutes

Alchemists can transmute an epic gem once every day. If you have an alchemist yourself this is a great way to use up your blue gems and make some extra epic gems. Once per day an alchemist can craft an epic gem using blue gems and eternals. If you have mined plenty of titanium and saronite you will no doubt have collected plenty of blue gems while doing so. You may also have collected a few blue gems from making icy prisms. If you purchase the right eternals form the auction house or if you have saved up crystallized elements or eternals from your every day activities you will be able to transmute an epic gem every day. As with all cases, if you do not have an alchemist, simply ask your fellow guild mates or advertise in the trade channel for a transmute cool down.
