Activision is introducing Treyarch’s Zombies storyline to a Modern Warfare game for the very first time with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and now we have our initial teasers for the undead. These fresh visuals provide a solid indication of the potential direction of the storyline and the appearance of the map. Here’s what we’ve discovered thus far.
Currently, there’s an ongoing Call of Duty promotional campaign taking place on WhatsApp, which enables you to text for hints about the upcoming Zombies storyline. The first shared image through the promotion displays a phone on a desk with a map and two notebooks. The map image features a circled area in red, potentially hinting at the location of this year’s Zombies setting. However, the most noteworthy visuals are the notebooks on the desk.
In this AO, you must be prepared for any situation.

These two notebooks are connected to the Black Ops Cold War narrative for Zombies mode, with one notebook showcasing the Omega Group emblem and the other titled and dated as an “Omega Report.” In Black Ops Cold War, the Omega Group served as the primary adversaries of the story, aiming to exploit the power of the Dark Aether to give the USSR an advantage in the Cold War.
The second provided photo is a surveillance image of an overturned vehicle engulfed in flames during nighttime, and while there isn’t much obvious information to go on, it’s possible that this could be a glimpse of a nighttime setting for the Zombies map.

Furthermore, texting “Requiem” will reveal another image related to Black Ops Cold War, as Requiem was the CIA-led team fighting against the Omega Group. This is a letter from the Director of Requiem, who was unveiled to be Edward Richtofen.

Lastly, the most recent shared image includes another overhead map and the photographs of three members of Requiem: CIA Special Agent Grigori Weaver, Major Mackenzie Carver, and Dr. Elizabeth Grey.

Modern Warfare 3 Zombies appears to maintain a contemporary setting, but a new faction seems to be utilizing the research conducted by the Omega Group in the 1980s to harness the energy of the Dark Aether for their own malicious intentions. More teasers will likely be unveiled through the WhatsApp promotion, and we can expect additional details about the story and map closer to the November 10 release of Modern Warfare 3.
As previously disclosed by Activision, this won’t be the traditional round-based Zombies experience, but rather an open-world encounter with survival elements and PvE extraction. It seems to be a fusion of Warzone’s DMZ and Black Ops Cold War’s objective-based Outbreak mode.
More information about multiplayer and Warzone will be revealed during Call of Duty: Next on October 5, but for now, be sure to explore all the previously announced details for Modern Warfare 3.
